Press Release:
FORMER INGRAM MICRO AND BORLAND EXEC NAMED PRESIDENT AND CEO OF NETWORKS IN MOTION
IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 8, 2004
Networks In Motion™, a software solutions provider for mobile workforce management and location-based services (LBS), today announced the hire of Doug Antone, former Ingram Micro and Borland executive, as president and chief executive officer. Antone will direct the company in building LBS market leadership through expanding its worldwide presence in delivering LBS applications.
Networks In Motion hired Antone as part of its continuing plan for growing the company. Antone will drive the company through its expectations of being the leading supplier of LBS software services on GPS cell phones as the market for LBS emerges early next year. The company has established itself with early product deployments for LBS and Mobile Workforce Management with Verizon and Nextel. Networks In Motion also won the Wireless LBS Challenge at the CTIA earlier this year. The hiring of Antone comes on the heels of Networks In Motion securing $5 million in series B venture capital funding from Redpoint Ventures and Mission Ventures in October 2004.
Antone has proven experience as president and CEO in venture backed startups, as well as executive positions in major public corporations. A few of his accomplishments include driving growth from $38 million to $500 million while head of worldwide sales at Borland International. As executive vice president of Ingram Micro, Inc., he built the Ingram Alliance division from startup to $3 billion in annual sales, and then later he rescued the struggling Frameworks System Integrated Division. Most recently, Antone served as president and CEO of DispenseSource, Inc., where he secured series C funding with a new lead investor, bringing in additional capital and leading the company to the leadership position in its market.
“Doug is an extremely valuable addition to our team,” said Stephen Petilli, chairman of Networks In Motion, and former CEO. “I’ve spent a lot of time with him during the selection phase of our CEO search, and have been impressed with his strong leadership character, sharp and articulate style and breadth of knowledge. I am confident he will provide immediate and gainful impact to Networks In Motion and I look forward to working with him closely.”
Antone is charged with maximizing value to stakeholders, directing the functional aspects of the business, and establishing close relationships with customers and partners. Petilli and former president, Michael Sheha, will assume new positions that will provide synergistic support to Antone and the process of building the company to meet the growing needs of the industry. Petilli will continue as chairman of the board of directors and take on a new operational role as executive vice president of business development. Sheha will take on a new role as chief technology officer and senior vice president of products, and will work closely with Antone on product definition and technical direction for the company.
The company’s products and technology combines mobility, navigation and the Internet to provide services and software for the development, integration, and deployment of LBS and telematics similar to in-car navigation. The company’s AtlasBook™ and Family Finder™ product portfolio features include real-time turn-by-turn directions, full-color, high-quality maps of the user’s location, the ability to locate a family member on a phone, and Yellow Pages to search for places nearby. The company’s commercial product, AtlasTrack™, allows managers to monitor their mobile workforce and report on the mobile efficiency of their business.
