Press Release:
NETWORKS IN MOTION WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD AT QUALCOMM’S BREW 2005 CONFERENCE
AtlasBook™ captures top honor in the “Most Innovative Use of Technology” category
San Diego, June 9, 2005
Networks In Motion™, the award winning Wireless Navigation and LBS company, today announced it was named a winner of the BREW 2005 Developer Awards, earning top honors in the “Most Innovative Use of Technology” category for AtlasBook. Each year, the BREW 2005 Developer Awards recognize top applications developed for QUALCOMM’s BREW® solution. Winners were announced at an awards ceremony during the BREW 2005 Conference, held June 1-3 in San Diego.
The AtlasBook BREW application uses a cell phone’s built-in GPS technology to deliver a full suite of tools including real-time turn-by-turn directions, full-color, high-quality maps of the user’s location and Yellow Pages to search for places nearby. Users can even log on to the AtlasBook Web site and store favorite places and trips that they can later retrieve from their phone. These features work together to simplify travel planning, save time on the road and make mobile life more productive. AtlasBook transforms a cell phone into a personal travel guide.
We are very pleased AtlasBook was recognized in the Most Innovative Use of Technology category of the BREW 2005 Developer Awards,” said Doug Antone, President and CEO for Networks In Motion. “We expect exciting features, like navigation, to become as ubiquitous as picture phones; because finding relevant information is easier with a location context.”
“We added the Most Innovative Use of Technology category to this year’s awards program to provide pioneering publishers and developers the opportunity to showcase pre-commercial applications that exhibit creative use of one or more QUALCOMM technologies,” said Gina Lombardi, senior vice president of marketing and product management for QUALCOMM Internet Services. “We are very pleased to recognize AtlasBook as a winner in this category – the application sets an exciting tone for what’s to come in the realm of location-based services. By leveraging both QUALCOMM’s BREW solution and gpsOne® technology, Networks In Motion has been able to rapidly develop advanced location-based applications.”
QUALCOMM’s BREW solution is designed to meet the distinct and varied needs of wireless operators, handset manufacturers, publishers, developers and end users around the world. BREW products and services include: an open, extensible client platform that supports robust systems and application software including personalized and branded user interfaces for mass market devices; a J2EE™-based, modular delivery system that enables the distribution of content, applications and user interfaces to wireless devices across all air interfaces; a dedicated professional services team that supports the integration of customized implementations; and the wireless industry’s first global marketplace to support the monetization of applications and services developed in all programming languages. The BREW solution can make the wireless visions of innovative companies a reality.
